Overview

Stress reliving reduces residual stress, improves dimensional stability, and prepares parts for machining, fabrication, or service.

We offer:

  • Stress relieving

  • Drawing

  • Tempering

  • Post-weld heat treating

Why Stress Relieving Matters

Thermal stress-relieving is the preferred method of reducing or eliminating residual stress, and the only form of stress-relieving that will lower hardness of burnout plate edges to improve machinability.

  • Reduced distortion
  • Improved dimensional stability
  • Improved machinability
  • Reduced risk of stress corrosion cracking near welds
  • Improved in-service performance

Our Furnace Capabilities

We use car bottom furnaces with no direct flame impingement on parts being drawn, tempered, or stress relieved. The furnaces are multiple-zone units designed for evenly distributed heating throughout the chamber.

Exceptional furnace capacity enables us to handle oversized industrial components that exceed the capabilities of many heat treating facilities, delivering reliable results for even the largest and most complex applications.

Available Furnace Sizes

  • 5′ W × 3′ H × 10′ L
  • 6′ W × 6′ H × 20′ L
  • 10′ W × 10′ H × 32′ L
  • 10’6″ W × 8′ H × 30′ L

Common Applications

Stress relieving today often requires more than simply heating a part and letting it cool. Some specifications call for a controlled rise to temperature, a defined hold time, and a controlled cool down to ambient conditions. It is commonly used for:

• Weldments
• Fabricated Assemblies
• Burned Plate Components
• Machined Parts
• Heavy Structural Components
• Post-Weld Heat Treat Projects

Quality, Control & Documentation

Our continued commitment to quality and service has been enhanced by the installation and documentation of:

  • Certified thermocouples
  • Computerized furnace controllers
  • Direct thermocoupling available
  • Atmosphere chart recording
  • Outside certification of furnace-related systems
  • Certifications traceable to national standards
  • Regularly performed certification procedures
